About the Department

Mailam Engineering College takes immense pride in its leading position among MBA colleges in Tamil Nadu. The Department of Management Studies (DOMS) was established in 2006 to address the growing demand for qualified management professionals in society. The MBA program offered by DOMS is a 4-semester regular program approved by AICTE and affiliated with Anna University, Chennai. DOMS has evolved into a pioneering institution in Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi districts. The department achieved its debut university rank in the third batch, which has consistently produced impressive results. With 23 Anna University ranks to its credit, DOMS has achieved an outstanding 87% placement success, enabling its students to secure an average salary of 3.5 LPA, showcasing its commitment to fostering successful career paths. In 2012, DOMS expanded its intake capacity to 120 seats, significantly contributing to the region’s pool of MBA graduates. The Department of Laboratory Sciences (DOMS) boasts a dedicated laboratory equipped with 32 high-configuration systems, each installed with the latest versions of essential software. Among these are TORA, an advanced tool for optimization and operations research analysis, SPSS, a powerful statistical analysis software widely used in research and data analysis, Oracle, a leading database management system for handling large datasets efficiently, and a suite of Microsoft Office tools for various productivity tasks. This state-of-the-art setup ensures that students and researchers in DOMS have access to cutting-edge technology to support their academic pursuits and scientific investigations.

  • On 26.02.2022, an Awareness Programme On Entrepreneurship & Start Ups has been organized and Ms. Supriya Malik, MSME-DI, Chennai addressed the students about the entrepreneurial skills required for opening a business.

  • A “Workshop on Resume Writing” has been conducted by Mrs. R. Devi, AP/MBA in Offline Mode for the first year students on 23.04.2022. Resume templates were shown to students and they are asked to prepare a resume and submit it on same day. And in afternoon session, “MY SELF” event has been conducted and coordinated by Mrs. K. Rajalakshmi ASP/MBA.
  • “My Entrepreneur Contest” has been conducted for first year students in Offline Mode to provoke the thought of Entrepreneurship and to make them identify their role model entrepreneurs on 30.04.2022.
  • Creativity and Innovation is one of the main skills for an entrepreneur. In order to develop this skill “Out of the Box” event has been organized on 30.04.2022 by giving old carton boxes and to develop a protocol model of their own wish.
  • On 07.05.2022, “I Quest” Event has been conducted for 1st MBA students in order to measure intelligence level of them.
  • On 13.05.2022 the department has organized “CONQUER ’22 – CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME” for final year UG Arts and Science students. Various technical and Non-technical competitions were conducted and prizes are distributed in the afternoon session.
  • On 28.05.2022, “Paper Presentation on Business Ethics” event has been organized by the department for first year MBA students in Online Mode.

Departmental Activities - Academic year (2019-20)

Department of Management studies and Computer Applications organized CONQUER ’2020: Career Guidance programme for the final year Arts and Science (UG) students on 27th February 2020. Around 565 Final year students from 25 colleges have participated in this programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Sarathbabu Elumalai, CEO , FoodKing, Chennai addressed the students about his entrepreneurial activities and growth. He explained about the entrepreneurial skills required for MBA and MCA courses and also the employability skills required for the students. He gave a thought provoking speech for the students.

Pulavar M. Ramalingam Tamil Literary Critic & Debate Speaker was another resource person who has given the motivation speech to the participants and encouraged them for further achievements in their life.

In connection to this programme, the department of management studies and computer applications has organized various Management and Technical competition for the participants. Best performed students were given cash award and the total cash prize is Rs. 60,000.

Apart from the major events, other events such as Rangoli, Mehendi, Poster presentation, Jewellery Making, Just a Minute, Soap carving, Clay modeling and Pencil sketch competition were organized and cash awards were given to the winners.

On 4th December 2020, PG induction programme was organized by the department in Online mode for the inauguration of MBA, MCA and ME programmes. Dr. S. Senthil, Principal has addressed the new incumbents on this occasion.

At the end of the programme, certificates were distributed to the winners and participants.

On 06.07.19 the department has organized “Workshop on Resume Preparation” for 2nd yr MBA students. Mrs. E. Aartheeswari, AP/MBA has given instructions on Resume preparation and correction has been done in the afternoon sessionitself.

A “Group Discussion” event was conducted on 13.7.19 in order to give training to the final year MBA students for their placement purpose. All the faculty members have acted as moderators and students have been splited intogroups.

“Seminar an Ideation” has been organized on 03.08.19 and Mr. L. Madan AP/MBA has given the lecture to the students in the forenoon session. On the same day, afternoon session“Product Idea Development” contest has been conducted to the students.

“Industrial visit” to Indian Institute of Food processing technologyThanjauvr has been organized on 04.08.19. All the 2nd year MBA students were taken to this institute in order to give an overview of business opportunities in the Food ProcessingIndustry.

On 24.8.19 the department has organized “Ad Dezine” and “Ad Zap” events for the final year MBA students to bring out the marketing talents of the students.

“Mock Interview” event was conducted on 07.09.19 for the final year MBA students in order to eradicate the interview fear among them. All Faculty members acted as interviewers and students are divided for all panels.

On 14.09.19 “Entrepreneur Meet” event was conducted for 1st year and 2nd year MBA students. Mrs. Shakila Farooq , Proprietor , Shabana Art Pottery, Mundiyambakkam was the resource person and she shared her experience in starting a new venture and explained about how well she utilized the government schemes in becoming a successful entrepreneur.

In the afternoon session( 14.6.19)“Workshop on Soap Making” was organized for 2nd year MBA students and “Business Quiz” was conducted for 1st year MBAstudents.

A Training on “English Communication” has been given to the First year students of MBA in order to develop their vocabulary in speaking on 28.09.19 (FN). On the same day “Business Connections” contest has been conducted for the students in the afternoon session.

On 05.10.19“I Quest” Events has been conducted for 1st MBA students in order to measure intelligence level ofthem.

“Group Discussion Training” has been given for the first year MBA students on02.11.19. In the afternoon session of the same day practices in group discussion has been done by splitting the students into 6 groups.

On 15.11.19 the first year students of MBA has visited Aavin, Thiruvannamalai to enrich their knowledge in milk processing and also to have awareness about the quality practices adopted in Aavin.

The department has organized “Ad-Zap” events for the first year MBA students in the forenoon session of 23.11.19.

In the afternoon session (23.11.19)“Team Building” event has been organized for the same batch students in order to check their team efforts.

The Department of MBA and MCA jointly organized a Career guidance programme “ CONQUER 20” on 27.2.2020

This programme aims to guide the UG students for their higher education and highlight the job opportunities for MBA and MCA graduates and bring out the talent of the students in the field of Management and Computer Application.

MOU (Memorandum of Understanding )

An agreement has been formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between VIBA and MAILAM ENGINEERING COLLEGE to collaborate on providing placement and training opportunities.
