As Mailam Engineering College entered its silver jubilee year, there was a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Twenty-five years is a major milestone for any institution, and MEC’s journey since its inception in 1998 has been nothing short of remarkable.
Today, young students feel inspired seeing the illustrious alumni who have shaped successful careers thanks to their MEC foundation. The faculty are filled with a sense of pride in how far their efforts have brought the institution. It was indeed a moment to reflect on everything the college had achieved in its journey so far.
From humble beginnings today we stand tall as a leader in technical education, shaping the futures of thousands of deserving young minds. This silver jubilee is a celebration of the past but also a promise of greater things to come.
PLACEMENT DAY
On 23/12/23, Mr. Selvamani Subramaniyan spoke about the wide avenues available for engineers. He interacted with final-year students regarding internship and job opportunities.
PATTIMANDRAM
An intra-college debate competition was held. The debate saw lively arguments from different teams. In his address, Mr. Simson Raja as the Judge lauded the debaters' oratory skills and public speaking abilities. He encouraged students to hone such soft skills for career growth.
WOMAN EMPOWERMENT
In keeping with the theme of empowerment, Dr. Parveen Sultana delivered a thought-provoking talk on women's rights and potential. She highlighted examples of successful people from diverse fields. Her message of believing in one's abilities inspired many students to break stereotypes.
POSTER PRESENTATION
The celebrations commenced with a poster presentation by renowned engineer Mr. R Krishna. Students displayed innovative project posters from various departments. Mr. Krishna appreciated the creative spirit and technical prowess of the MEC community.
MOTIVATION PROGRAM
The iconic Dr. I. Jagan delivered a high-energy motivational speech on 20/12/2023. With moving anecdotes from his career, he motivated students to pursue their passions with grit and perseverance. His words rekindled their zest for learning and achieving big goals.
Alongside these main events, specialised workshops equipped students with valuable skills. Dr. G. Seenuvasan discussed entrepreneurial strategies, skills and success.
He stressed on the importance of skills like creativity, risk-taking ability, financial management, networking and leadership for entrepreneurs. Students learned how to evaluate market needs, gather customer insights and validate their business concepts before launching startups.
Ms. A. Shahanaz is a Technical Trainer at Ethnotech Academic Solutions based in Bangalore. She introduced data visualisation concepts using matplotlib & R programming language to our students.
Students learned to create graphs, charts and dashboards to extract meaningful insights from data in an intuitive visual format. It also exposed them to the growing relevance of data science tools in various engineering domains.
Ms. Abarna A is an alumnus of Mailam Engineering College who is currently working as a System Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services. In her session, she spoke about her role and responsibilities as a System Engineer at TCS.
The alumni session was extremely insightful for the students as they got first-hand industry exposure. Her motivated students to hone their technical skills along with soft skills to handle complex projects & client relationships. She also advised students on certification courses & internship opportunities in the field of system engineering.
As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, MEC students and faculty organised a volunteer day focused on social responsibility. A blood donation camp was set up on 7/12/23 in collaboration with the local government hospital.
Doctors and nurses from the hospital helped facilitate the camp and conducted health checkups of donors. Special arrangements were made to collect blood from willing volunteers in a safe, sterile environment.
On 15/12/23, a UI/UX design session by Mr. Vimal Kumar helped students understand this growing field. In his interactive session, Mr. Kumar began by explaining the concepts of User interface and User Experience design.
Students found the session very insightful as it helped them understand the growing demand for UI/UX skills from a practitioner’s perspective. They got exposure to design tools and latest trends in the field.
The festivities commence with great enthusiasm across the campus on 2/12/23. An intra-college marathon was organised. It was a vibrant showcase of sporting talent, team spirit.
A college bazaar featuring food stalls, games and merchandise attracted large crowds. Departments set up colorful stalls to promote their projects and activities. It was a fun and interactive platform for students to experience campus life.
The celebrations also included a techathon competition where teams worked on innovative solutions to real-world problems. The Principal awarded the top three ideas prizes & appreciation.

Mailam Engineering College is a self-financing institution that was established in 1998 in Villupuram district. The college is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to the Anna University, Chennai. It offers eight undergraduate courses and six postgraduate courses.
