Merit cum Means Scholarship for Deserving Students

Mailam Engineering College enjoys the distinction of having the largest number of students among all the educational institutions in Villupuram district. At present, there are more than 3700 students pursuing their B.E / B.Tech / M.E / MBA / MCA courses and every year the number of students receiving their degrees is increasing steadily. To accelerate this momentum, MEC is offering several scholarships for first graduate students from economically weaker sections whose annual income is less than Rs.50,000/-.  Because, MEC strongly feels that economic insufficiency should not be an impediment for the students’ academic progress.

Students whose annual income through all sources is less than Rs.50,000 find it difficult to pay Rs.20,000 per year (for first graduate students, government pays Rs.20,000 and the remaining Rs.20,000 is to be paid by the student), especially for students with single parent and with younger or elder siblings in college whose expenses should also be met with the meager annual income of the family.

To manage college expenses, many B.E / B.Tech students are forced to take odd part-times jobs in their neighborhood, and this results in their mental stress and lack of attention in studies. Therefore, the management and all the faculty members are contributing a part of their income to fund promising students to progress to their fullest potential, and realize their personal dreams and that of their family members. At present, we are sponsoring 20 B.E / B.Tech first graduates students who hail from Below Poverty Line family background.

From this year onwards, we are planning to reach out to a few more students who show academic excellence despite financial burden i.e students with least income and the highest GPA/CGPA in their semesters. So, we look forward to your generous contribution to help the needy students pursue their B.E / B.Tech course without economic stress and anxiety. The statement of utilization of funds raised by the Alumni Association this year will be declared in the next year Alumni Meet. Alumnus who is willing like to sponsor a particular eligible student/department of their choice can also do so. Interested alumnus may kindly contact Placement Officer (placementofficer@mailamengg.com) for further details on this regard.
